Macallan is a favorite of my bride and some of our Scotch drinking friends, but I haven’t tried the cask bottling. It seems like a good thing to forage into the pantry. And maybe the Asyla, too. Thanks for the ideas, I’m looking forward to trying these.

I still like it, but you can buy a decent single malt for about the same money.

As far as Cask Strength, The Macallan Cask Strength is a good general purpose Scotch to have around the house.

Erik, my Scotch experience is limited, as my tastes run more to rye and bourbon. My palate happily accepts the occasional Islay whisky neat with my brother in law, but I just don’t seem to get along, generally, with Scotches in cocktails. I notice you recommended Compass Box Asyla in your own Affinity writeup (http://savoystomp.com/2007/10/16/affinity-cocktail/ ); what should I try if I want to take you up on your cask strength recommendation? (I’ll try anything once—if I can afford it!)
